About my collage work

Originally, my interest in historical advertising led me to buy old magazines. I found it fascinating to rediscover the zeitgeist of past decades and was soon inspired to make artistic use of the wealth of this material. What fascinates me about the collage technique is how things that were created completely independently of each other complement each other – sometimes almost magically – resulting in something that is much more than the sum of the original parts.

For my collages I mostly work with paper and I use original materials that I take from books and magazines. I believe that both chance and self-limitation that come into play this way are particularly conducive to creativity.

Stylistically, most of my works are not freely expressive, but take a particular motif or scene as a starting point, which is then given a special twist by removing or adding elements – often with a humorous or surreal touch.
