About this project

"A Boy's Will" was Robert Frost first book of poetry. It was published by David Nutt in London in 1913, since Frost had emigrated to Great Britain with his family in 1912. In the years before that, in addition to various teaching jobs, he had become acquainted with simple country life – on a farm in Derry, New Hampshire, which his grandfather had left to him and which he farmed for nine years.

In "A Boy's Will", Frost's formal and thematic ties to the classical canon of English literature are still prominent, but the modernity of his later work already shines through here and there.

My translations (© 2006-2022 A. Eble) were created as a personal project - driven by the affection for Frost's work and by the wish to get to know better the first volume of his poems, which often stands in the shadow of later works.
